What do you find difficult in marketing your nonprofit?

Just learning how for multiple nonprofits

I'm with the Butler County Association for the Blind, and am working to grow the organization and expand our operations to meet new demands and desires within our community. I've only been on board for 2 weeks, but we have a very proactive executive director and a dedicated team, so I'm hoping to implement new strategies quickly.

Unfortunately, I am new to both the nonprofits and the marketing field. My background is in political science, and though I've acquired skills in campaigning that I think will translate well, I'm still concerned about my relative inexperience. In order to offset this, I'm working to network with marketing, PR, and development managers in nonprofits across the region and glean a bit of wisdom from the experience.

If you visit my site, www.togetherweflourish.com you will see that it is a very new online bulletin board for nonprofits in western PA. I want to help guide them to posting relevent information about their missions. I'm dealing with small and mid-size nonprofits, many of which do not have a strong, if any, marketing department. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
